Boys Basketball News
Playing basketball with Scoil Bhríde has been an extremely enjoyable experience. We look forward to training every Thursday with Múinteoir Gillian. We begin training with warm-up drills, we then move onto skills training and matches. We love playing matches against each other because we make each other better.
We began the cumman na mbunscoil basketball league last October. Our first game was against Sallins; an extremely tough team who had beaten us the past two seasons. Thankfully our training paid off and we won our first game of the season 26-12. Our next game was against Kilcock which we won by a score line of 27-3. Our third game was against Caragh which we won with a score line of 28-14. We were through to the semi-finals.
Our semi-finals were against Monasterevin. The first leg of the game was at home and we came through with a victory after a tough game. We then travelled to monasterevin for the 2nd game which we won with a score line of 33-18. Our two semi-finals were very tough and we gave 100% in order to get to the final.
By reaching the finals we had made Scoil Bhríde history as the first basketball team ever to do so. We were nervous but extremely excited about the game. We beat Sallins in the final by 14-02. When the final whistle blew we couldn’t believe it; we had won. We were filled with adrenaline and it was such a wonderful feeling to be able to share with your friends.
Playing basketball with Scoil Bhríde has helped us develop strong friendships. We have learned that in order to achieve our goals we need to work together and keep your head high and never give up. We will continue to train every week and look forward to our basketball blitz in March.
